Offensive
I just stumbled upon this article and I love it!
People always like to say how offensive public breastfeeding is ESPECIALLY if the mother chooses not to cover.
Everyone talks about how uncomfortable they feel and about how mother should be far more considerate.
People put mothers down and make them feel shameful for doing the very best thing they can be doing for their baby nutritionally.
Well, this list is spot on...and the list could go on some more.
lets see...other things that are more offensive than public breastfeeding:
1. Excessive PDA. No one needs to see you all over your partner in a public setting.
2. Farting. This needs no explanation.
3. Extreme coughing. There are those people who are sick, they KNOW they are sick with an illness, yet they still find the need to be around other people spreading their germs.
4. Body Odor. You know you smell and so does everyone else...especially at the gym.
5. Spitting..."loogies" were mentioned in the article but really, spitting of any kind is just gross.
I could go on and on if I put the thought into it about other more offensive things than public breastfeeding but I think for now you get the idea.
Instead of embracing breastfeeding as a NORMAL act and accepting mothers who breastfeed in all forms, there are many people who just can't help but be negative about it. There are people who will never see the other side to the great debate.
In some peoples minds: public breastfeeding is not acceptable. period. there is no other side to it for them and that is truly unfortunate that people are THAT concerned with breastfeeding when there is SO much more going on in today's world that should cause concern.
On a final note...I saw this saying somewhere and it has stuck with me because I think it's great. It goes something like this:
A child's right to be nourished by their mother far outweighs your non-existant right to never feel uncomfortable in a public setting.
