furbaby
Our poor little furbaby, Carter, has pneumonia! Who knew a guinea pig could even get such a horrible sickness. He was breathing very rapidly and heavily this morning, so I called the vet and told them he had labored breathing and they said come in asap. So we hurried to the vet's office and they saw him immediately, and sure enough he was wheezy and breathing really fast, etc... so the Dr did his exam and determined that this is probably pneumonia so they put Carter on an antibiotic, a very small dose (0.5cc) once a day for 2+ weeks. I am PRAYING this helps. The Dr said it is highly unlikely that this is heart failure or cancer (YIKES) because he is still a baby (we estimate that he is about 5 months old-but that is just an educated guess). Anyways, this was a different Dr than we had originally had when we first brought Carter when we first got him, he had an upper respiratory infection back in September. But nonetheless this Dr knew his stuff and I felt confident that he knew what was best for our piggie. We will call back tomorrow to tell them how it is going, and we know some of the things to look for, for if he is getting worse. Despite the sickness, Carter is a healthy 700 grams!
This emergency vet visit cost a pretty penny but worth every penny to keep him healthy and alive. I would be so devastated if he passed due to us not getting him checked by the animal doctor.
So, that is what is going on here, if I can figure out how to post a picture I will so you can all see what our furbaby looks like! :) <3
